Must Read Mon-er-Tuesday #7

Okay, I'll be the first to admit I have been neglecting the blog, but it wont be much longer. I only have two more week's of class and then I'll be all yours again. I missed yesterday's Must Read Monday due to an unfortunate Statistics assignment so I decided to just do it today! Hope you dont mind!
Fans of Fiction
Must Read Monday is hosted by Fans of Fiction.
The goal of the Must Read Monday is to find share your love of great books with others in the hopes that they'll add a new title to their To Be Read list.
Your job is to create intrigue for other hoppers. What makes your book so swoon-worthy? What do you absolutely have to mention so they'll read it?
On your post, you'll make an acrostic puzzle (think of it as an overview/book blurb type of thing).
When you leave comments on other posts, be sure to mention whether you're adding that book to your TBR pile, and what part convinced you to do so.
It's all about powers of persuasion, people:) You might have to think a little, but channel that inner-creative goddess (or god).
This week's category was: A book that made you laugh out loud

Okay, I have once again chosen a book with a ridiculously long title Here we go:

Here is a girl, Mo
On her way to Grundy, Alaska
Who arrives in this cold little town

To get away from her overprotective family.
Once she gets there,

Friends are met, and
Life becomes easier.
It doesnt take long before
Really odd things happen
To begin, an almost rape

When a wolf saves her life
It seems like everything is okay
Then some deaths occur
He-wolf seems like the obvious choice

And then

Naked/sexy Cooper shows up on her porch
And he has a bear trap around his ankle
Kindling fires, and
Erect - um - furnishings
Deepen the bond between Cooper and Mo

When people are killed
Everyone suspects the wolf
Regardless, Mo needs to be sure
Everything is strange
When the wolf is a man
Oh, and that man may be a killer.
Love can conquer all, but
Folly cannot.
Okay even the title is pretty funny. I love the book. I wish I had more of a sense of humor to make the poem less serious but oh well. Read the book!!! It was fun and light read that had me laughing out loud at work. (See my review here.) I love books that make me look like a crazy person for laughing to the people around me.

Random Rant Thursday! Thanksgiving Rant!

Hello Everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!!! I feel like ranting this morning, so here we go!
So, Thanksgiving is here and I must admit I'm pretty excited. I love getting together with family and eating all the delicious food and all that wonderful stuff, but do you notice how much tension in families build right before holidays where we're supposed to be getting together. It becomes frustrating at times. Oh well, I guess that's what family means; still being able to come together to celebrate even after disagreements. Sometimes though, I wish that there wasn't so much drama in families. I figured that since its Thanksgiving, I should identify all the different characteristics of people in my family:
  • There's the one who thinks they're better than the rest and wants everyone to know they just bought a new car or has a special job with the president or whatever.
  • There's the one who everyone treats like they aren't a grown adult. "Come here dear and let me take care of that for you."
  • The one who never come's to dinner because their wife/husband doesn't like the family. "Oh sorry everyone I cant make it. Vivian has a cold and we think it may be a rare disease we picked up from hiking last week so we're just not going to be able to make it" (how on earth does one person get that many illnesses)
  • There's the cousin that's a bit promiscuous. Talks the whole night about her date and how obsessed some guy is with her
  • The one who brings a different date to dinner each year and has to call in advance so the family doesn't call the date the wrong name.
  • The one that didn't do what the family believe's is a good job or exactly what they thought was the right path for them. "If only you went to college, you wouldn't be so exhausted after work dear."
  • There's the relative that everyone puts their faith in to be a perfect person. They make everyone else jealous and people never really call and talk to them when it isn't a holiday or birthday or something.
  • There's the talker, who lies about everything they say but just like to hear themselves talk and nobody pays attention but instead just stares at them the whole time. "I swear, I literally jumped 30 feet out of a tree and landed on my feet and shot the deer at the same time! Then I carried it back to the car 20 miles away with my bare hands!" Er, okay?
  • There's the super-religious person who's spending time trying to convert everyone else at the table.
  • The elder who wants to force everyone to listen to their history and pay respect
  • The one who calls all the grandchildren by the wrong name (over and over and over again!)
  • The one who reminds you of the younger years when you were "this big and used to eat poop and pull out your own hair and stick your tongue at everyone all the time"
  • The over-entitled person who thinks everyone should wait on them hand and foot.
  • The one who just wants everyone to get along and stop fighting. "Please guys! Lets just forget that and eat. How about we all hug and be friends again!" (okay I'll admit this is me sometimes)
  • The one who shows up sober and leaves drunk and in the meantime insults everyone else.
  • The one who constantly has to be reminded that "This is not the time to talk about that!!"
  • The one who has too many kids. The kids run all over the place and in between legs flipping and rolling underneath the table. The mom looks around like its not her kids. Ha!

That's all I can think of at the moment. The one thing I notice, is that to each person, they are always the "good" person and everyone else is always messing things up. Family doesn't mean blaming others all the time, it means coming together and supporting each other no matter how annoyed you are. Its understanding that although they may fit one of these qualifications, everyone has good qualities that make them so darn lovable!!!

Which family member's did I forget?

Waiting on Wednesday

Okay everyone!! How are you all??

I have been online a lot lately and thus have three WoW picks for you this week!!
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights books that have yet to come out that we are patiently (or more often than not, impatiently) waiting on. I have three choices this week because, well, you all know I cant make concrete decisions. This week's picks are:

Book: Above
By: Leah Bobet
Publication Date: April 1, 2012

Description: An extraordinary debut urban fantasy about dangers outside and in.
"Above pulls off that rare trick of being convincing and utterly magical at the same time."
- Emma Donoghue, NYT bestselling author of ROOM
"Leah Bobet's ABOVE is that rarest of creatures, combining the outspoken honesty of a good first novel with the craft of a seasoned professional." - Elizabeth Bear, Hugo Award-winning author of DUST
Matthew has loved Ariel from the moment he found her in the tunnels, her bee's wings falling away. They live in Safe, an underground refuge for those fleeing the city Above--like Whisper, who speaks to ghosts, and Jack Flash, who can shoot lightning from his fingers.
But one terrifying night, an old enemy invades Safe with an army of shadows, and only Matthew, Ariel, and a few friends escape Above. As Matthew unravels the mystery of Safe's history and the shadows' attack, he realizes he must find a way to remake his home--not just for himself, but for Ariel, who needs him more than ever before.
ABOVE is the debut of an amazing new voice.

Why I want it: Look at that cover. Isn't it amazing. Oh and the fact that she has bee's wings. I just couldn't not choose this book. I hope it's going to be as amazing as it seems!!!

Book: Article 5
By: Kristen Simmons
Publication Date: February 14, 2012

Description: New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., have been abandoned.
The Bill of Rights has been revoked, and replaced with the Moral Statutes.
There are no more police—instead, there are soldiers. There are no more fines for bad behavior—instead, there are arrests, trials, and maybe worse. People who get arrested usually don't come back.
Seventeen-year-old Ember Miller is old enough to remember that things weren’t always this way. Living with her rebellious single mother, it’s hard for her to forget that people weren’t always arrested for reading the wrong books or staying out after dark. It’s hard to forget that life in the United States used to be different.
Ember has perfected the art of keeping a low profile. She knows how to get the things she needs, like food stamps and hand-me-down clothes, and how to pass the random home inspections by the military. Her life is as close to peaceful as circumstances allow.
That is, until her mother is arrested for noncompliance with Article 5 of the Moral Statutes. And one of the arresting officers is none other than Chase Jennings…the only boy Ember has ever loved.

Why I want it: Er, did you read that synopsis? Enough said...

Book:  Beautiful Evil
By: Kelly Keaton
Publication Date: February 21,2012

Description: A power she can’t deny. A destiny she’s determined to fight.
When Ari first arrived in the dilapidated city of New 2, all she wanted was to figure out who she was. But what she discovered was beyond her worst nightmare. Ari is a descendant of Medusa and can already sense the evil growing inside her—a power the goddess Athena will stop at nothing to possess.
Desperate to hold on to her humanity and protect her loved ones, Ari must fight back. But Athena’s playing mind games, not just with Ari but with those she cares about most. And Athena has a very special plan for the brooding and sexy Sebastian.
Ari is determined to defeat Athena, but time is running out. With no other options, Ari must unleash the very thing she’s afraid of: herself.

Why I want it: I read Darkness Becomes Her and fell in love with this series. I cant wait to see where this story takes us. Becides I'll admit. The cover is quite interesting

Must Read Monday #6

Hello Everyone and Happy Monday!!!

Its time for Must Read Monday!!

This week's category is: Fantasy (or some book with fantastical elements)

So it's quite hard doing this when all my book's are at home. I guess I'll choose Twilight because...well....I'm in love, and because I recently saw Breaking Dawn and loved it (minus the weird wolves talking bit)!!!

This is both the beginning and the end.
When life changes from what it is,
Into what it will forever be.
Love is what makes things change.
It brings together the Lion and the Lamb,
Generationally predestined to be predator and prey.
Here, each fight their nature.
The result, is something none have yet encountered.

Nevertheless, without darkness, there is no light.
Eventually the bonds of even the greatest love must be tested
When this happens, all hell breaks loose

Madness, depression, adrenaline, destruction
Only subsided by the help of a "friend"
Only fixed by the return of a lover
Never to leave her again

Eventually though, that "friend" becomes more
Coming in between the bonds of love
Likewise past skeletons haunt the present, promising
Imminent danger to all nearby.
Persistent killers, and crazed newborns,
Surround the troublesome trio
Effectively, causing a war between enemies, and friends

But our trio overcomes the death and destruction
Resulting in marriage of Lion and Lamb
Everything seems perfect
After bonds are tied, but it's not, and the
Killing of an unborn baby isn't allowed
I cant explain the pain and anger that ensues:
Near death/actual death/emergency vampirization
Granting Nessie life

Drawing Vampire, wolf, and hybrid together
Awakening superpowers none knew existed.
We read these books with an open mind, fall in love with them and leave
Needing so much more.

This was my hardest one to date!

What do you think??? What are your choices?

Waiting on Wednesday: The Deserter by Pedar O. Guilin

Hello Everyone!!!

So I havent yet figured out goodreads. I can do a few things, but I dont have many friends on there so I end up just sitting and staring at my homepage, unsure of what to do next. Sometimes I look at books. But thats it. If you're interested, add me as a friend. My email is smleach5400 [at] yahoo [dot] com and my name is Sherre on there I think. Anywho, I end up finding many of my WoW books on Barnes and Noble as a result of my inabilit to navigate. This week's WoW pick is no different...
Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This weeks pick is:

Book: The Deserter
By: Pedar O. Guilin
Publication Date: March 13, 2012

Description: To save his tribe, the cannibal Stopmouth must abandon it. Leaving the stone-age world of the Surface behind, he travels to the Roof, the mysterious hi-tech world suspended above. But the Roof has its own problems. The nanotechnology that controls it is collapsing. And now a rebellion against the ruling Commission is about to erupt.
Hunted by the Commission's nano-enhanced agents, Stopmouth must succeed in a desperate hunt of his own: to find the woman he loves. Only she knows how to save his tribe. But in this super-sophisticated world, all he has to fight with are his raw strength and fierce courage.

Why I want it: There aren't many books in male POV these days. I am very intrigued to read this one. Besides, the main character's a cannibal and when do you really get to read a book referencing cannibalism. It sounds pretty amazing. It also has just a touch of love story, which makes me love it even more.

What are your "Waiting" On Picks this week?

Must Read Monday #5 and Marina's Tales Giveaway Winner

Hello Everyone and Happy Monday!!!!!

I have had a busy weekend with classes ending soon and everything but I'm back in action!!!

It's all about powers of persuasion, people:) You might have to think a little, but channel that inner-creative goddess (or god).

This week's category is: A book so powerful it changed you in some way
Okay so I legitimately think that Jenna and Ashley are choosing categories that will make me think really hard ON PURPOSE! Such a hard decision because I think that every book tends to change me somehow. Its like when I read, I am lost, and when I get done, I sigh as if i have just run a marathon (literally), come back down to my body and try to incorporate the message or book into my life somehow. I guess if there was a book that really changed me in some way it could be Crank by (once again)  Ellen Hopkins. I chose her book Burned last week and now I'm feeling like her books are all amazing or something (which admittedly they are). I will admit though, that although they were amazing, I would never ever read them again! I don't feel that way because the books were bad or anything, like I said they're amazing, but because I just don't want to go through the emotions the book puts me through again. The fact that it was written in verse and the way it's written brings you right into the story and makes you feel exactly like the character. When I say exactly, I mean it.

This particular book, showed me that just because I have it all together right now and everything is "perfect," certain things can happen and pull me down and there's nobody to right my life but me. (I hope that makes sense) Anywho, on to the acroustic:

Crystal Meth is Bree's new Friend
Reckless alter ego Bree who consumes Kristina
After a taste of the Monster
Normal is overrated, and
Kristina's life, her plans, everything, is beginning to fail.

Trust me. If you havent read this book yet, read it. It is so surprising how much you can get into this book. I thought I'd hate it when I first read it, but it's absolutely great albeit disturbing.

We also have the winner for the Marina's Tales Giveaway.

Ms Lan Chan of The Write Obsession (again) has won my giveaway!!! (It helps that she had like all additional entries possible. Ha!) I am happy for her and the author should be contacting her shortly. Happy Reading Lan!

Follow Friday

Hello everyone and Happy Friday!
Follow Friday is hosted by Allison Can Read and Parajunkee's View. Its where we get together with other book bloggers and hang out. This week's question is:

In light of 11.11.11 and Veteran's Day tell us about your favorite solider and how he or she is saving the world. Fictional or real life.

This is both an easy and a Hard question. Its easy because I know my favorite soldier in Real Life. Its my cousin Reggie! He's the best and he seems so strong. Despite the many times he's had to go overseas, he's done it without fear. He tells us that he WILL be coming back, and he is the bestest cousin I could ever ask for!!!

Its hard because who is my favorite fictionally? I could say its Major Jasper Whitlock/Cullen, but I also like John from Dear John. He's great.

What are your answers???

Random Rant Thursday! (my random made up meme)

So today I felt like coming on here ane telling you random comments about random things and I planned to call the post RANDOM! Then I realized it was Thursday, so I planned to call it Random Thursday, but Thursdays aren't random, they're actuallt pretty common. So then I settled on Random Rant Thursday, which I had hoped would actually be Random Rambling Thursday but I felt like that was too much going on and anyway, Random Rant Thursday sounds better. So here we go. I am guessing I'll do this every Thursday (at some point or another) and use it as my place to say random things nobody really cares about, but I want to say anyway. Hope it doesn't bore you to death.

Rant

Okay first, there's a person I recently met, lets call him Bill, and I decided to be nice because he doesn't know anyone else at the place I met him. (Okay he's a coworker at my job, and he's new) Then I got pretty peeved because he had the nerve, after I only knew him like 5 days, to ask me to write a paper for his grad school class for some class that I hate more than anything and that I probably will have to take in a few semesters. The paper was 7 pages. I told him I dont mind helping with papers and that I was good at writing papers and everything, but apparently to him that meant I cheat for people or something. After he asked, I nicely said that I can help with grammar or sentence structure or "does this make sense" or whatever, but in no way am I going to write your paper for you. First of all, I dont even know you, second, I hate this class, and third "Do your own work." Dont thisnk that because I'm some intern who is good at school and kind of smart that you're going to use me! Anyway, he got the picture, but I felt the need to share.

Have you ever had a blog that you stalk because you're in love with the pictures? I have quite a few and one of them is LC's Adventures in Libraryland. I am in love with her personal buttons and pictures and everything. Not sure if she is a photographer or something but I love it all anyway. Back to the point. She's having a 1000 follower giveaway, and I am posting this not only because I guess I get extra entries or something like that, but because I want to steal the prettiness of the button. Isn't is pretty?

I think so. Well good luck to her and If you have a chance, stop by and check out her stuff.

Last but not least:

I need ideas!!! Christmas is coming up and I need to give people I know gifts, I also plan to have a secret santa giveaway at some point on here (we'll see how that goes). What kind of things do you think will go well in a giveaway, and what do you give to a person who you know doesn't really need anything?

You're still here? Well I must say, thanks for listening! What do you think about me continuing to do this every week. Should I keep my ranting to myself? Let me know!!!

Waiting on Wednesday

Hello everyone and er, happy wednesday (i wish it was friday). I'm feeling slightly exhausted today, like I could tip over and fall into sleep at any moment. (no idea why, I slept pretty darn well last night) My eyes are angry at me because I'm forcing them to stay open, and my legs feel like I'm shuffling like a zombie. Maybe I'm turning into a zombie. I mean really, they're probably really tired too. They never seem to sleep and just walk nonstop. Maybe they really dont want to eat peoples brains, and instead they're just trying to get a nice nap, on your bed, and they feel like they have to kill you to get to your bed but never ever make it. Okay I think I'm done rambling (I ramble when I want to sleep). These are the books I want really really bad:

Waiting on wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases we want really really bad. I probably should stop doing them because they do nothing but make my TBR pile ridiculously long, but who cares. I almost never follow "probably should" advice, becides, I guess it'll get that way with or without the help of all of you. I surf for books when I'm bored (which is often)...Okay done rambling again. Back to the matter at hand:

Book: Under the never Sky
Author: Veronica Rossi
Publication Date: January 3, 2012

Description: Since she’d been on the outside, she’d survived an Aether storm, she’d had a knife held to her throat, and she’d seen men murdered. This was worse.
Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive.
A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria’s help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.
In her enthralling debut, Veronica Rossi sends readers on an unforgettable adventure set in a world brimming with harshness and beauty.

Book: The Savage Grace (Dark Divine #3)
By: Bree Despain
Publication Date: March 13, 2012

Description: Grace's life is a mess. Daniel is still a werewolf, Talbot can't be trusted, and Caleb is still out there. With Sirhan's impending death, war seems imminent. Will Grace give in to the wolf to save her family? What will happen to Daniel . . . and can their love survive one last test?

My thoughts: I want them both. NOW!

Er, disclaimer: (which won't do anything to prevent what will hppen because by the time you  read this I will probably have already done it) Be advised that I may ramble in your comments section. I'm feeling in the talking mood!

Must Read Monday #4

Good Morning and Happy Monday!

Befofre I begin, I need to rant a bit. It SUCKS that despite the fact that I love reading all these books and writing reviews, and can read books in one sitting without losing interest, I still cant read a book for sckool without being bored out of my mind and nearly pulling my hair out. You would think that I'd have a lot of practice by now and could do it easily but no! I hate it even more than before. It seems that the more I force myself to read the stupid book, the more my attention is directed to how much I hate it and then how much I'd prefer to be reading my book for the blog, and then to how hungry I am, and then to how many pages I have left, and once again to how much I hate the book. If only I didnt have to read boring materials for class. Oh well. Its time for Must read Monday, hosted by Fans of Fiction.

This weeks Category is Contemporary/Realistic Fiction.

Ugh. Not my category at all, (I don't have much to choose from it seems) but I will choose Burned by Ellen Hopkins (I hope this counts)

Burdened by abuse of her father and norms of her religion
Under strict guidelines to follow
Ransacked by ideas of sex, love, and violence
Now Pattyn is shipped away
Everything she discovers and more
Determine her destiny, and eventually, her demise.

I hope that makes you want to read it. This is by Far the best book of the ones written by Ellen Hopkins (in my opinion) READ IT!!!

Waiting On Wednesday: Winterling by Sara Prineas

Hello Everyone!! Its Wednesday...you know what that means right?
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This week's pick is:

Book: Winterling
By: Sara Prineas
Publication Date: January 3, 2012

Description: With her boundless curiosity and wild spirit, Fer has always felt that she doesn’t belong. Not when the forest is calling to her, when the rush of wind through branches feels more real than school or the quiet farms near her house. Then she saves an injured creature—he looks like a boy, but he’s really something else. He knows who Fer truly is, and invites her through the Way, a passage to a strange, dangerous land.

Fer feels an instant attachment to this realm, where magic is real and oaths forge bonds stronger than iron. But a powerful huntress named the Mor rules here, and Fer can sense that the land is perilously out of balance. Fer must unlock the secrets about the parents she never knew and claim her true place before the worlds on both sides of the Way descend into endless winter.

Sarah Prineas captivates in this fantasy-adventure about a girl who must find within herself the power to set right a terrible evil.

My Thoughts: I am so looking forward to this book. It seems like some supernatural thing is at work here...but what? Werewolves? Something else? I cant wait to read it!!!

What are your choices?

Teaser Tuesday - Dead Sky Morning by Karina Halle

Hi Everyone and Happy Tuesday!!!

Getting Started late today (sick again) Here's the Teaser for this week! I'm thinking I wont be able to finish this book this week. I have like 2 papers due, but we'll see!

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along. Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Teaser for this week is from Dead Sky Morning By Karina Halle.

Book: Dead Sky Morning
By: Karina Halle
Publication Date: October 13, 2011

Description: With the Experiment in Terror show finding some success, amateur ghost hunters Perry Palomino and Dex Foray embark on their most terrifying investigation yet. A tiny, fog-shrouded island in the rough strait between British Columbia and Washington State has held a dark secret for decades: It was a former leper colony where over forty souls were left to rot, die and bury each other. Now a functioning campground, Perry and Dex spend an isolated weekend there to investigate potential hauntings but as the duo quickly find out, there is more to fear on D’Arcy Island than just ghosts. The island quickly pits partner against partner, spiraling the pair into madness that serves to destroy their sanity, their relationship and their very lives.

My Teaser: "'Because I'm not dead.' 'You will be soon,' she said simply, her little-girl voice gone. The frankness cut me to the core."

What are your teasers?
